“Cyril Neville has long been one of our most soulful voices. That, along with his writing and production talents, are on vital display in this stirring collection.” – Jim Hynes, Elmore Magazine

On Saturday, July 14 The Recording Academy™ will honor its 2018 Special Merit Awards recipients with “GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends®.” Among those honored will be the likes of Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Tina Turner, and Uptown Ruler himself, Cyril Neville, being celebrated for his work with The Meters. All will occur the day after Neville’s 5-disc box set of his independently produced “Endangered Species” catalog will be released on his son Omari Neville’s nascent label World Order Records, distributed by Louisiana Red Hot.

2018 has proven to be a banner year for the youngest among the Neville Brothers which started with Cyril being awarded OffBeat Magazine’s “Best Male Vocalist” prize. The release represents Cyril and his progeny taking back full control of his career and music, which is plenty to celebrate. The box set includes sought after titles produced by Cyril that were previously unavailable, and which feature a host of Louisiana legends on record. The companion compilation of “Essential Recordings,” curated by LRHR, has already charted on Amazon’s Top 20 Blues releases and is receiving stellar reviews and features the brand new single “Love Has Got To Win” whose exclusive debut will appear on www.relix.com on the day of the album release.

Louisiana Red Hot Records is the proud distributor for New Orleans’ Future Funk super group Water Seed whose latest release “Say Yeah!! Live at the Blue Nile” debuted on the Billboard Charts in four different categories.

Billboard Top 40 Recording Artist, Water Seed is a progressive innovative band that dares to bring musicianship, dexterity and creativity to Funk, Soul, R&B, Fusion, and Future Funk. Spearheading the progressive R&B movement, Water Seed is reminiscent of the funkier side of the R&B genre. Mixing the sounds of James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, Prince and Earth Wind and Fire, Water Seed captures a modern sound that bridges the musical gap a la Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson and Childish Gambino.

Key appearances include the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Essence Festival, Trombone Shorty’s Shorty Fest, and headlining at the Apollo Theater with a sold out show. Beyond their weekly residency at New Orleans’ esteemed Blue Nile, Water Seed maintains an aggressive touring schedule, sharing stages with Janelle Monae, Tank and the Bangas, Lalah Hathaway, Tisha Campbell-Martin, and Cyril Neville. Their self-released studio album “We Are Stars” climbed to #27 in the R&B album charts. The follow-up live album “Say Yeah!!” is a love letter to the worldwide fans who have fueled their steady climb. The Deluxe edition includes live concert footage for all songs included on this one of a kind recording.

“We do our own style of New Orleans Treme funk, that consists of funk, New Orleans brass band music, a little bit of hiphop–inspired music, a little bit of soul and R&B.”

Trombonist Corey Henry continually celebrates all that it means to grow up in a musical family and in the rhythmic and melodic incubator that is New Orleans’ Treme neighborhood. It was a spot where a musically curious and lively young man could catch brass bands rolling down the streets and share the experience with his equally eager young friends.

“I was living right next door to my cousin Kabuki [trumpeter Derrick Shezbie] on Treme Street and with the whole Rebirth family—Miss Frazier—lived on the next block,” Henry explains. “You can imagine what that two or three block radius was like. It was crazy. The whole of St. Philip Street was like a party every day.”

The world of brass band music and traditional jazz remains inherent in Henry’s style even as he has moved on to incorporate other grooves as leader of his own Treme Funktet, which just released its hard-hitting debut CD, Lapeitah. (More about the title’s special origin later.) The trombonist also brings his own sound when blowing with the jam/funk/rock band Galactic.

As a teenager, Henry had the opportunity to play with and listen to some of this city’s greatest musicians. So early on the trombonist understood the importance of musicianship and the tonal quality that today defines his mastery of the instrument.

MARC STONE’S POISON & MEDICINE DEBUTS NATIONALLY

New Orleans, LA — September 23, 2015

Louisiana Red Hot Records is proud to announce the release of Poison & Medicine – the national debut album from New Orleans 2015 “Best Blues Artist” nominee (“Best of the Beat” Awards, Offbeat Magazine), Marc Stone.

It’s no wonder that New York City-born, New Orleans-adopted guitarist Marc Stone has become one of the most respected Blues and Roots artists in the Crescent City. Who else has spent the last 20+ years backing such an astounding litany of Louisiana Blues, R&B and Zydeco legends including Eddie Bo, Ernie K-Doe, Marva Wright, Tommy Ridgely, Marcia Ball, Henry Gray, Rockin’ Dopsie, C.J. Chenier, and Grammy winner Terrance Simien? When not gigging with his crackerjack band or touring Europe, Stone also hosts “Soul Seranade,” the fifteen year-old worldwide radio show broadcast on famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Station WWOZ, 90.7 FM.

Stone’s impressive roots-music pedigree, red-hot slide playing and outstanding story-telling are all on fine display with his national debut Poison & Medicine. A stellar cast of New Orleans guests including percussion wizard Mike Dillon, the Bonerama Horns, the late great tenor sax master Tim Green, members of Galactic, Honey Island Swamp Band, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band spice the nine soulful/devil-inside grooves, spanning the Southern musical spectrum from gospel to R&B to haunting Delta Swamp Blues. It’s a potent brew of powerful medicine or slow poison…take your pick.

This release caps an outstanding first half of 2015 for Stone. With two European tours under his belt this year, Stone has also performed such high profile US gigs as French Quarter Festival, Tipitina’s opening for a sold out Radiators reunion show, a featured role in the All Star New Orleans tribute to Mad Dogs and Englishmen, as well as performances with Walter “Wolfman” Washington, John Mooney, Leftover Salmon with Bill Payne and Col Bruce Hampton, and Marcia Ball.

Stone’s signing to Louisiana Red Hot adds him to a powerhouse roster that includes the Honey Island Swamp Band, Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk, Glen David Andrews and the New Orleans Suspects.

Kevin-Solo-Promo-2013Lafayette, Louisiana native Kevin Sekhani returned to his roots in 2010 after 20 years playing on the Austin, Texas music scene, determined to release his first solo album and combine the influences of two of the best musical regions in the world. He has succeeded in spades with “Day Ain’t Done,” his solo debut for Louisiana Red Hot Records. His songwriting was honed from years of collaborations and jam sessions with the legendary wordsmith Bill Carter, who wrote hits for Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Counting Crows, Waylon Jennings, and others, so the time was right for an album that No Depression called “…one of the best debut albums I’ve heard in years.” With backing from members of the backing bands of Son Volt, John Mellencamp, and Patty Griffin, it’s layered with Americana staple instrumentation.

Taking the earthy tones of violin, mandolin, accordion and acoustic guitars, it exudes the feeling of back porch jam on a Louisiana Saturday night. The album’s track “Oilfield Tan” has found its way into regular rotation on local Louisiana and Texas radio stations, resonating amongst an area all too familiar with the demanding industry of oilfield work.

As a 20 year veteran of the Austin music scene playing in bands like the Radio Thieves and Two Minute Sinatra, Kevin Sekhani has done it all. From blazing rock-n-roll to holy ghost honky tonk in the Mercy Brothers, for years Sekhani has entertained crowds with heartfelt enthusiasm and poignant lyrics. In Austin, Sekhani spent his time working with Michael Ramos (John Mellencamp, Patty Griffin), Andrew Duplantis (Son Volt), and string player extraordinaire Warren Hood. In 2010, Sekhani moved back to his home town of Lafayette, Louisiana to front The Mercy Brothers, a Gospel group walking the fine line of sinners and saints. Since his return home, he has won over the hearts of Jazz Fest and Festival International audiences and landed a top 5 spot on the Americana charts in Europe.
